The past decade has been one of rapid growth in eastern Nebraska.
In 1986 the population of Sarpy County was 98,631, and by 1998 it had grown to 120,785. Sarpy County has also changed from a predominately agricultural county to a more urban setting.
A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that the learners interact with comes from the Internet. Working in groups, the students will assume the role of interested parties. The four groups of interested parties are: farmers, developers, members of the Army Corps of Engineers, and city/county planners. As part of the research process, professionals from those four areas will speak to the classes. The students will then research the environmental implications of the development plan, assess the development plan, and make recommendations as to whether the development should be approved.
The folowing classes will be participating in the project:
Trumble Park Elementary - Mrs. Dauner - 5th Grade - Farmers
Parkview Elementary - Mr. Dennis - 4th Grade - Developer
Parkview Elementary - Mrs. Hupp - 6th Grade - Army Corps of Engineers
