She was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska.
She graduated from Central High School in 1981 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, from which she
graduated in 1986 with a degree in secondary education and endorsements in
English and Theatre. She returned to school for additional endorsements
in speech and debate, and also began earning credits toward her Master's
degree. Her family lived in Lincoln
until 1997, at which time they moved to Garden City, KS where she taught
secondary English at an alternative school for six years. They then moved
to Papillion in the summer of 2003 where she took the English position at
IDEAL alternative school.
Her husband and she are the parents of
four children ranging in age from 21 to 7; the three youngest attend
Papillion-La Vista Schools.
