National History Day Club Prepares to Compete

The Conflicts, the Compromises

By Danielle Airola, Papillion Junior High School

PAPILLION-The National History Day competition, held at the Durham Western Heritage Museum in Omaha every year, is less than two months away and the groups and individuals competing are working hard after-school on Thursdays. The theme this year is Conflict and Compromise, and for a while it was a conflict choosing topics. With topics ranging from the Trail of Tears to the Manhattan Project, Poland, research is going well. The teacher in charge of the group is Mrs. Dixon, a Social Studies teacher.

The purpose of the club is to research a historical topic that relates to this year’s theme, and then present the information about that topic in a project that is judged in a competition. “The research is going fairly well,” says Emily Kuklinski, a member of the group working on a project about the concentration camp Auschwitz.
