The migration of the monarch butterfly is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the world. It is also considered an"endangered" phenomenon. Scientists fear the migration may not continue beyond the next decade. Monarch butterflies fly freely across the continent between Canada, the United States, and Mexico as they make their annual migrationers.

Students in the first grade made "symbolic" monarch butterflies. Students tagged their butterflies and sent messages in Spanish to Mexico symbolizing the Monarch's migration to Mexico. In the Spring, students will receive butterflies made by students in Mexico.
